These sophomore nursing students had their Capping Ceremony in Saint Thomas of Villanova Church in 1959

Holding in their right hands the traditional candles, they recited the Villanova Nurses’ Pledge: "I solemnly pledge myself before God Y to pass my life in purity [,] Y and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care." These words at dedication marked the first milestone in their nursing careers. Villanova’s first Capping exercise took place on 8 May 1955. Reverend James A. Donnellon, O.S.A., Ph.D., was President.
